What to see in the Langhe

Tour of the Langhe Piedmont

It is impossible not to fall in love with it, not to be amazed by the landscapes and not to be excited by what a territory like the Langhe can offer.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, a land of renowned wines, postcard landscapes and good food: nothing better to spend a day, a weekend or an alternative week. We want to introduce the Langhe by sharing with you some interesting gems.

If you are looking for information about the Langhe, you have come to the right place.

Where are the Langhe located?

The Langhe are located in Piedmont, straddling the provinces of Cuneo and Asti. It is a territory that can be divided into low-altitude Langhe villages, high-altitude Langhe villages, and Asti Langhe.

The area is located a few kilometers from Turin: in an hour’s drive they are easily reachable depending on the area you prefer to visit.

Why choose the Langhe region?

The Langhe is the ideal destination for a romantic weekend, a trip with friends and family, or a longer holiday.

They offer a variety of activities: sports, food and wine experiences, guided tours, panoramic tours… We have many activities to offer you depending on your interests! The Langhe is for everyone: from 0 to 99 years old, a trip here will never disappoint.

Which villages to visit in the Langhe?

The road to Barolo offers breathtaking views, and any season is perfect for filling your eyes and heart as you travel through the rolling hills that lead to your destination. A Barolo potrai percorrere piccole strade caratteristiche in cui troverai storiche cantine, enoteche e ristoranti dove potrai gustare un ottimo pranzo o una cena. You will also find WiMu: the wine museum and the corkscrew museum, two unmissable stops when visiting the Langhe. The WiMu is located inside the Castle of the Marquises Falletti, where Silvio Pellico and Giulia di Barolo once lived. Finally, if you love legends, you will be fascinated by a visit to La Volta Castle in Bussia (2.5 km from Barolo).

Awarded the orange flag by the Touring Club of the Italian hinterland, this small municipality in the Langhe region has fewer than three thousand inhabitants but countless stories to tell. Walking through the town center, you can visit the church of the Confraternita di San Sebastiano, which has a small bookshop for tourists, showcasing authors from Piedmont and the Langhe region. Seven trails start in La Morra and can be enjoyed in company thanks to their simplicity. Walking along them, you can discover panoramic views, woods, and unique landscapes. The hiking trails in Langa offer landscapes rich in vineyards. In fact, the Langhe area includes part of the 43,500 hectares of vineyards (about 7% of Italy’s vineyards) of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato. To celebrate the hard work involved in working the land, La Morra is home to the monument to the Italian Winegrower.

Barbaresco has only one road: Via Torino, small but welcoming, leading to the thousand-year-old tower with its panoramic terrace. Thanks to the map on the terrace, you can discover the points of interest in the Langhe below. Finally, you will find a deconsecrated church that now houses the Enoteca del Barbaresco wine shop. In short, if life’s pleasures are made up of small, beautiful things, why not enjoy a peaceful walk, a glass of wine, and a unique sunset?

One of Italy’s most beautiful villages is Neive, where you can admire stunning landscapes from the village center. It seems like magic, yet it’s true: Neive charms and amazes. If you haven’t discovered it yet, now is the time to do so.

Home to the regional wine shop that selects the finest labels from the region to offer to all enthusiasts and curious visitors, a wide selection in one place, where you can purchase and discover the great wines of Piedmont. An excellent destination for the end of your vacation or weekend in the Langhe hills. Right inside Grinzane Castle, where the wine shop is located, the Order of the Knights of the Truffle and Wines of Alba was founded in 1967. It is an ancient food-and-wine brotherhood that originated in Grinzane Cavour. To promote and defend the culture of the region and the traditions of Piedmontese cuisine and local wines.

More city, less countryside, the capital of the Langhe region, famous for its Truffle Fair and the manufacturer of Kinder eggs. Alba is a city to explore on foot, immersing yourself in the historic center, visiting the Duomo, and venturing into restaurants that offer Piedmontese cuisine at different times of day.

Organized tours of the Langhe: a complete experience

Let’s start with organized tours in Italy

Organized tours in Italy are an optimal way to have an authentic experience in this beautiful country. Organized tours are available in many parts of Italy: there are many types of tours, among which I point out the new food and wine tours, always interspersed with visits to the cities, but above all, excursions in the magnificent nature. An organized tour lets you enjoy the experience without having to worry about organizing everything yourself, finding schedules and addresses, or choosing from the many possibilities that may interest you.

Want something special? Are you looking for an authentic Italian experience?

We recommend an organized tour in the Langhe, a region still not so well known by tourism, enclosed in Piedmont, in the north-west of Italy. The Langhe organized tours are the perfect choice if you love good food, wine and in general experiences with the taste of authenticity. Here you will find some ideas to organize your tour in Italy, but especially in the Langhe.

I said that the Langhe is an extensive, hilly area in Piedmont, in the north-west of Italy. Known and famous for its fine wines, among which Barolo and Barbaresco stand out. If you are a food and wine lover, an organized tour in the Langhe can be an ideal choice for you. During the tour, you will have the opportunity to visit local, famous, small and authentic wineries, to taste some of the best wines in the world. In addition, you will have the chance to taste the local cuisine and discover the gastronomic specialties of the region. All with a side dish of unforgettable views.

What you should expect from a Langhe tour, organized just for you

During a tour in this part of Italy, you will have the opportunity to discover the beauties of the region. You can choose from many tours on your own or, if you prefer, have a guide accompany you during the tour. During visits to the winery, you will always be accompanied by staff, many times by the owner, who will accompany you in discovering the magical world of winemaking. Excellent gastronomic products and workshops for tastings will be obligatory stops. You will be able to discover the natural beauty of the region, such as rolling hills and breathtaking landscapes.

The Langhe organized tours are available by many “means”: by bike, by Vespa, on foot, with your own car or rental car, with or without driver. It all depends on your preferences and budget. Some tours focus solely on food and wine, while others also include visits to medieval castles and villages. With a particular emphasis on the surrounding nature, which earned this area the nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014!

How to choose an organized Langhe tour

By now many tour operators have discovered this beautiful area of Italy. They have created packages that are more or less long and more or less important in terms of budget. I recommend that you choose a reliable and quality local tour operator if you want to guarantee yourself a memorable experience. Here are some factors to consider when choosing an organized Langhe tour (but which generally apply whenever you have to make these choices):

  1. Experience: Choose a tour operator who has consolidated experience in the Langhe region. This way, you will be sure to have up-to-date information and you will be able to discover even lesser-known corners!
  2. Customer Reviews: Read customer reviews on tour operator websites or on TripAdvisor. This way, you can get an idea of the experiences offered to those who preceded you!
  3. Services offered: Check the services offered by the tour operator, such as transportation, guide, wine tastings and lunch. Make sure the price includes all the amenities you want. See if they already have well-described packages with the price in evidence. These packages, combined with each other, are already a trip that you can tailor for yourself. And certainly without price surprises!
  4. Price: Choose an organized Langhe tour that is within your budget. However, remember that price should not be the only factor to consider. It is important to always evaluate the quality/price ratio of the service.

FAQs about Langhe tours

SlowDays experiences in Piedmont

The average time needed for a good tour to discover the Langhe region for the first time varies from one to three days. That said, it’s up to you. There are so many things to do in the Langhe region that even a more extended vacation can be exciting!

There are many wineries to visit if your goal is a wine tour. Some famous ones such as Ceretto, Vietti, Bruno Giacosa, Gaja, and Prunotto. But there are countless other small wineries with excellent products that will surprise you! Would you like to organize your own wine tour? Follow Tips for organizing a Langhe wine tasting

The Langhe are famous for their gastronomic specialties, including white truffles, raw meat, fondue, bagna cauda, agnolotti “del plin” and many more!

We will organize a fantastic tour in the Langhe, just for you (it’s not true, for all those who want to discover this beautiful area of Piedmont!)

I answer by advising: How to organize a tour of the Langhe by car

If you have decided to come to Piedmont for a short or longer holiday, I recommend that you have a car. The Langhe tour can thus be organized in the best possible way. Public services are not so convenient to be able to better organize your travels.

In one of the articles published on our blog I had hypothesized a tour of the Langhe by car, in search of castles: Castles of the Langhe, between the Middle Ages and Vineyards. But many of our wine tours or gastronomic toursinclude the car.

On our pages you can also choose Tours by other means of transport, bike, Vespa, trekking. If you want to use public transport, I recommend that you arrive by train, connections from Turin every hour, and then I will organize a day with a car with driver and so you won’t have to think about anything. Simply enjoy the view and even drink a glass of wine without the hassle of driving a car!

There are connections departing from Alba to the many villages of the Langhe, but it is difficult to match the timetables in order to make the most of a short holiday!

If you are thinking of taking a tour of the Langhe, write to me. I am a “langhetta” who lives in the Roero. I know these hills and I have traveled them on foot, by bicycle, by car and by Vespa. I chose to convert my love for this land into my work. Every new corner I know inspires me with a new experience to propose.

I can only tell you: I’m waiting for you!
