Autumn in colour in the Langhe

October is a magical month for the colors of the vineyards

Fall Foliage in the Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato

Discovering the fall foliage in the Langhe made me think of a dream. I’ve always wanted to travel to the United States—specifically to Maine—during autumn. The stunning photos of the “Pine Tree State” with various colors from yellow to deep red have always fascinated me.

This afternoon, I found myself in the car, surrounded by the foliage at home! The colors of the vineyards, on these gorgeous October days, gave me quite a treat! Sure, the vines aren’t as tall as the trees in the Maine woods, but once you go up a bit into our hills, the view opens up into a painter’s palette of colors.

And so you’ll find the golden leaves of the Moscato vines alongside the yellow leaves of the Nebbiolo. Nebbiolo, which will later become Barolo and Barbaresco, loves to stand out. It sees itself as noble and different from the others! My personal favorite, Dolcetto, has bright red leaves. You can spot a Dolcetto vineyard by its joyful look! The most serious of them all is Barbera. It’s already dressed in autumn colors, with violet and almost brown leaves.

If you take in all this beauty on an e-bike ride, on a walk, or even by driving a bit further with your windows down and at a slow pace, you’ll truly feel like you’re part of a beautiful painting!

To top it all off and make this amazing season even more complete, we have the Alba White Truffle Fair! This means delicious dishes with the fragrant King of the Woods, paired with the wines we mentioned earlier and cheeses that… invite deep reflection!

I don’t know about you, but I’m not going to Maine this year! If you decide to come and see it too, you can tell me if I was right.

Oh! A little secret. Once the truffle is delicious, once the first lazy foggy days arrive in November, the truffle spreads the word too much—I still like to keep a few secrets just for us.

Warm greetings from the foliage in the Langhe.
